Louisville Chiropractic Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment

Maybe / Maybe Not

By definition carpal tunnel is when the fascia / tissue in the wrist become irritated to the point that pressure is created on the nerves that go to the fingers.

With some patients this is the case in others it isn't. Now there is a condition called Double Crush Syndrome. This is when the nerves that run from the neck through the shoulder and the elbow into the hand and the nerve are impinged in two places. Typically these impingements occur in the cervical spine/the neck and in the elbow.

Now the best way to determine this is a test call an NCV. This is when small needles are placed in the areas where the nerves go and the conductivity of the nerve is read. I've had one of these done it Hurts.

The traditional treatment for those that suffer from carpal tunnel is surgery. The goal is to release the entrapped nerve in the wrist. Now statistically the success rate for this surgery is 40% this is because the impingement was not only in the wrist they had Double Crush Syndrome.

The amazing part to this is that typically 50% of these people have a second surgery in 5 years. Why? Because of the scar tissue that forms from the surgery.

Now for the good news there is a more conservative way to approach carpal tunnel syndrome. Dr. Randall Wheeler DC a chiropractor in Louisville Kentucky treats carpal tunnel in the following way. First a complete evaluation is performed to rule in or out double crush syndrome or carpal tunnel.  Once a correct diagnosis has been made the appropriate areas are treated with cold laser therapy along with manual adjustments and the appropriate rehab releasing the pressure on the nerve at the sight of impingement.
